The Infiniti brand was created in 1989 by Nissan in an effort to compete in the luxury vehicle market outside of Japan. Although Infiniti has not been an unquestionable success during its twenty-three years of production, it has grown consistently and is now established in 15 countries with over 230 dealers. Although all of the Infiniti cars are almost identical to a corresponding Nissan car, Infiniti's vehicles are equipped with more standard luxury features and in 2010 Infiniti even launched a new performance division.
Originally exported only to the United States, the 1990s mediocre sales taught Infiniti the importance of target markets and meaningful style dynamics as opposed to simply badge swapping and enigmatic commercials that don't technically show the car. The struggling brand reconstructed their cars and their image in the early 2000s, producing the sportier FX crossover and the sleeker G35 that actually embodied the image that Infiniti was trying to sell. Finally gaining success that warranted expansion, in 2008 Infiniti was introduced into the European market that now encompasses 21 European countries that sell the FX, EX, and G37.
Wheels on Infiniti cars have shied away from gaudy or flashy styles, preferring to keep with the more subdued style that encompasses the general aura Infiniti wishes to embody that might be described as unobtrusive class; as such, very few chrome rims (the epitome of flash and flare and consequently proffered on many high price vehicles) have been available. Instead Infiniti has opted for more subtle rim finishes such as plain silver, silver with a stainless steel rim, hyper silver, polished, or machined among others.
