In 1992 AM General created the Hummer name brand to market a version of their military Humvee (or the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle -HMMWV- as was its official, albeit not as popular, name) to the general public. Sales were fine until the automobile market tumult in 2008, which elicited a review of the Hummer brand. Found lacking and without a buyer, the Hummer brand was completely dismantled by 2010.
